general - probs the most concerning rule for most people - the word count! all we ask is a minimum 50 words per post. you're welcome to make longer posts, of course, but 50 words per post feels like a comfortable minimum for most people.
- as per proboards's tos, we're pg-13! you can swear and get violent, but please, no swearing in thread titles.
- we allow both one account per person & account-per-character, depending on the user's preference. we ask that people choosing to have multiple accounts state in their signature the name they use ooc, i.e. 'played by courier.'
- it should go without saying, but please, don't be rude, bully people, or anything in that vein. we're all adults here, or at least old enough to know better.
- if you're going to be inactive, please, post in the appropriate board! we'd hate to delete you after an activity check because you didn't.
- all images used on the site should be stock (i.e. from dA) or CC (i.e. flickr), or properly credited artwork (with permission to use it ofc.)

characters - all characters have to have an application, be they created or born on-site. you can tweak the provided application to your tastes, of course, so long as all the required information is provided.
- we'd prefer it if you waited for your application to be accepted, just in case there's any issues, but you can start roleplaying as soon as you post your completed application.
- your characters can be any species or combo thereof from the list of acceptable species, found in the creation board. if you want to roleplay as a species and it isn't listed, approach a staff member about it!
- at the moment, we allow only natural coat colors and markings as appropriate to your character's species and breed. unnatural eye colors (i.e. colors beyond the natural shades of brown, blue, and amber), however, are totally allowed. these may be allowed in the future if there's enough interest, either as rewards for contests or OTMs, store items, or gifts for site anniversaries, birthdays, or holidays.
- another not-allowed-at-the-moment thing is unnatural mutations! unnatural includes stuff like glowing eyes, traits from other species like slitted pupils or antlers, etc. just like the unnatural coat colors & markings, they may be allowed later if there's enough interest, probably as part of a site-wide event.
- if your character is mixed breed or a hybrid, then you need to make an effort to reflect that in their description and any images you use for them! it's not something that will be enforced too harshly, because we understand how difficult it can be to blend all the different things in your character's family tree, but please don't blatantly abuse this laxness. (i.e. having your dog look like a purebred husky when they're a mix of like seven different breeds.)
- if joining with a pregnant character, then you'll need to create separate applications for each of her offspring.
- at the moment each character can have a free animal companion! these animals should be smaller than your canine, such as birds, lizards, mice, & squirrels. how well they can communicate with your character is up to your interpretation, but it should follow the rule of the longer your character & their companion have known each other, the better they should be able to communicate; think of it as having a friend who speaks a different language.
- if your account is deleted, your characters will be treated as having vanished without explanation from summerfield unless you state otherwise. if you choose to rejoin and want to bring those characters back, you'll have to recreate them.

roleplaying - our word count minimum is 50 words, but it's not the end of the world if you don't meet it all the time; we're here for a fun time, not a strict-following-the-rules time.
- time is liquid here, meaning your character can be in multiple threads at once. you can have as many as you like, so long as you keep track of them all.
- powerplaying and god-moding is, of course, not allowed. powerplaying is taking control of another player's character without their express permission. god-moding is when, in a fight, you write your character as dodging every hit but having all of their attacks land (and probably do massive damage while you're at it.)
- as per proboards's tos, we've gotta keep things pg-13. this means you've got to fade to black when your characters have sex, not swear excessively, and keep graphic descriptions of violence to a minimum.
- if another roleplayer tells you your character and/or the subject matter of a thread/plot is making them uncomfortable, then do the cool thing and either tone it down or cut it out. we're here for fun, and while realistically things won't always be sunshine and rainbows for strays and wild animals, we're not to trigger people or otherwise make them not want to be here.

territories & packs - territories that can be claimed and used as a place to establish your character's pack are mixed into other playable boards. each member can only claim one at a time.
- to claim an unclaimed territory, post in-character there and wait for a staff member to accept it. for one that's already claimed, however, you'll have to post a challenge to the territory's current owner in-character and wait three days. if they don't respond within that time period, or respond and choose to concede the territory, you now own the territory and may establish your own pack there. (users who have posted absent can't have their territories challenged for.)
- a newly claimed land is immune from challenges for one real-life week.
- members can write their own territory descriptions, but they should follow the basic idea of what the territory is supposed to be. a junkyard territory should stay a junkyard, and not morph into a forest, when it changes owners for example.
- the ranks and rules of a pack are up the member who owns the land.

fighting - note that these rules cover only official fights, over things like territories, settling grievances, etc.
- all characters must be at least a year old to fight.
- the length of a fight - the number of replies each member has to post before a fight is judged & how long each reply has to be - has to be agreed on prior to its start, and should be posted along with any other rules & restrictions both members have agreed on in the first post.
- an impartial staff member will be picked to judge the fight once it's finished. members can ask for a specific staff member to do it, but the final say in who will lies with the admins.

breeding - as per proboards's tos, graphic breeding is not permitted.
- characters can't breed before reaching one year of age, regardless of species. this is to make things easier on everyone, considering how many different species are allowed on summerfield and the different irl ages of maturity for each species.
- all species can breed to produce fertile offspring, regardless of whether or not they can irl. (whether or not these offspring are otherwise healthy remains to be seen.)
- members aren't allowed to make their own stats; this applies to staff members too.
- parents of a litter must have met in character at least once and have one completed thread together, in which they've bred. this can all be done in one thread, if you're so inclined.
- each female character may have only one litter per in-character year. male characters currently have no limit, but one will be imposed if this is abused.
- each litter will number between one and three pups.
- the players of a litter's parents get first pick of the pups and have the final say in who gets the pup or pups that are left over.
- after you claim a pup from a litter, you'll need to fill out an application for it and have it accepted just as you would a created character.
