there have been dogs in summerfield for as long as there have been people, and the foxes and coyotes have been around even longer. things have never quite been peaceful, as is usually the case when humans disrupt an area by settling it. farm dogs will butt heads with foxes and 'yotes over killed livestock; strays and pets will bicker over the former trespassing in the latter's yard; strays will form packs and fight over territory every couple of years. otherwise, though, things are calm. stable, even. certainly nothing on the scale of the conflicts seen in more populous areas. all that changed roughly twenty years ago, when strays began trickling in from nearby cities in far greater numbers than before after being displaced by inter-pack wars. they brought with them one of the main causes of said wars: alignments. as they mingled and interbred with the canines of summerfield, they raised new generations into following their philosophies of light, neutral, and dark. while there are many who follow the older, more anarchic way of life, a steadily growing number are pledging their allegiances to one of the three sides. whispers of strange canines from far away places appearing in the area are only adding to the growing tension.
